World Cyber Security Awareness Month

Cyber Security is one of the greatest threats to our safety, wellbeing and national security that we have faced in recent times. What’s more, cyber security is not just an issue for governments, it can and has affected companies too. With malware and ransomware, some companies have been forced to pay millions to retrieve their data and get their files back. Even individuals are not safe from attack. So, what can be done? Well, the whole thirty-one days of October are World Cyber Security Awareness Month and there are events and webinars that will give you a much greater insight into this area. To get you started, there are six steps below that you can use to take action today. Obviously, this is by no means an exhaustive list and if you want to do a proper audit of your cyber security protection, it’s always best to call in the professionals.

Keep your updates up-to-date

Make sure your device is running on the latest software. Most updates are designed to counter vulnerabilities.

Close old accounts

If you don’t use them, close them. All they are doing is giving those with malicious intentions another point of entry which you may not notice if the account is dormant.

Today, most large internet sites offer multi-factor authentication as well as other safety measures.

Protect your information

Check a website’s privacy options to ensure you have enabled them at the highest level.

Think about every link

Be very wary of clicking on any link where you can’t guarantee the source.

Secure your mobile device

You can use passcodes, double authentication entry and other means to keep your device safe.
